160.Thursday : The Ascension of the Lord

Every baptized person is called and authorized through grace to live an ascended life in Christ—a life where truth becomes greater than illusion, peace greater than anxiety, discipline greater than impulse, prayer greater than distraction, humility greater than pride, purity greater than temptation, forgiveness greater than resentment, hope greater than despair, gratitude greater than blame, communion greater than isolation, sacrificial love greater than selfishness, and awareness of grace greater than spiritual blindness. Yet many times, the forces of evil appear to overpower grace because of ignorance, distraction, attachment to lies, and lack of awareness of God’s presence and action within us.

In Acts 1:9–11, while the disciples were looking intently toward heaven as Jesus ascended, two men in white garments stood beside them and said:

“This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.”

Every baptized person is called to experience this return of Christ—not merely at the end of time, but through an interior awakening to His living presence through grace. The peace of Christ grows as the soul becomes more aware of His presence, guidance, and communion within.

Through Baptism, the Eucharist, prayer, charity, and faithful obedience, the inner life is gradually rebuilt so that Christ may dwell more fully within the person. By partaking in His Body and Blood, believers deepen communion with Him and become more receptive to His transforming presence.

This return of Christ within the soul can manifest as a life increasingly formed in charity, truth, humility, peace, and holiness, as seen in the lives of the saints.

As Saint Paul writes in Ephesians 1:18–19:

“May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call… and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe.”

And Christ Himself says in Matthew 28:18–20:

“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me… And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Each baptized person carries this power , grace and calling within. What is often needed is greater awareness, faithful cooperation with grace, and simple daily steps of formation. Just 10 minutes each day with ChristusWay Daily Mass Reflections, together with praying the Rosary and living a sincere sacramental life, can gradually strengthen awareness of Christ’s presence and help the soul act more fruitfully against the many lies, confusions, temptations, and pressures encountered in daily life.
