Awareness of Chastity : The Nativity

The Immaculate Conception and Chastity

Chastity is the proper ordering of love according to God's will. It is not merely the avoidance of impurity but the integration of thoughts, desires, affections, and actions toward authentic love. A chaste heart is free to love God and others with sincerity and purity. As attachments become ordered and the heart becomes purified, the soul becomes a more fitting dwelling place for Christ.

This mystery helps us contemplate the Immaculate Conception and the chastity of Mary, drawing us into a mystery of light before time itself unfolded. Meditation upon Mary's chastity is a great blessing for the soul. It helps us grow in awareness, listen more attentively to divine inspirations, and embrace the divine will with greater freedom and trust. As the soul becomes more receptive to grace, charity begins to flow naturally into thoughts, words, and actions. In this way, contemplation of Mary's purity not only forms the interior life but also produces the fruits of love and service that reveal God's presence in the world.

Mary is the highest purity ever granted to a creature. Not purity as an achievement, but purity as a gift sustained without interruption by divine grace. In her there is no rupture, no shadow of separation from God, no interior resistance to love.

The Most Holy Trinity dwelt within her in a unique and profound way. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit chose not a throne of gold or a star in the heavens, but a living and immaculate soul prepared by divine grace. Infinity entered a created heart, not to be diminished, but to be received in perfect love.

Her purity is not merely moral; it is a complete harmony with God. Every faculty of her soul was ordered, transparent, and entirely responsive to grace. Mary teaches us what the human person was created to be when fully united to the divine will.

As Christ is the Creator and Lord, His divine life transcends all created experience. Mary, however, is a creature like us. Although uniquely graced, she remains fully human and therefore provides a path of contemplation that is easier for us to approach and understand. In contemplating her life, we begin to glimpse what grace desires to accomplish within every soul.

Mary loved from the first instant of her existence. Where others awaken gradually into awareness, she awakens already in love. Original sin darkens memory of God; in her there is no forgetting. Her soul remains continuously aware of the divine presence, like a flame that is never extinguished.

To meditate on this mystery is to be drawn into purification. The soul touched by this contemplation begins to desire simplicity, clarity, and interior freedom. It is as though one stands before a dawn that has never known night.

  • Here the Rosary becomes not merely prayer, but participation in her interior light. Each mystery prayed in union with Mary becomes a gentle cleansing of the heart. The soul gradually grows in purity, awareness, receptivity to grace, and love of God's will. In this way the heart becomes a living Bethlehem, prepared to receive Christ and to become a dwelling place for His presence.
